Our Fine Feathered Friends

Dear Editor,

On the first day of September I sat out on my deck and listened to the cacophony of joyous sounds from our avian friends. I was serenaded by a kingfisher which flew by in typically busy fashion; I listened to the delightful raucous caw of a blue jay; I communicated with a cardinal which sat on my railing for twenty-five minutes; I was inspected by a hummingbird which hovered two feet from me; I listened to the distinctive song of a chickadee; I watched over a dozen house sparrows chirping; I listened to the dulcet cooing from two Mergansers swimming in our bay; I listened to the nervous chatter from the dozens of sea gulls on our levy; and I listened to the caterwauling of a dozen geese on another levy.

I was truly blessed by the sounds and activity of our fine feathered friends and would encourage your readers to put some more bird seed in your feeders to help these wonderful creatures flourish.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Palmer, Meaford
