Editor,
Friday June 5, 2026 I was pleasantly informed, by what I saw as I drove to the course for golf.
The first act of our spring play is past.
Many kinds and colours of daffodils, tulips, violets, narcissus and fruit tree blossoms have left the stage.
The second act is performing now. The trees are in full leaf. So many shades of green and some red. Lilacs, irises (white, yellow, purple), columbine, lupines, blue firework alliums, wild snapdragons and peonies are on stage.
Other actors are busy playing their roles. Chipmunks, squirrels, many kinds of birds, calling, chirping, nesting and attending our feeders. Hummingbirds are most interesting to watch buzz and zoom about defending their territory.
Mothers are pushing their babies in strollers, walking their dogs.. no need for coats.
The downtown streets are full of parked cars; people shopping, doing their business. The ice cream shop has people queued up out the door.
Older couples are meandering down the sidewalks on their way to an early lunch in the cafes and restaurants.
The garden centers, plant and flower shops are busy.
Some people are collecting on the beach by the harbour but the water is yet too cold to go in.
Tourists are wandering about taking photos of scenes not common where they come from.
It is a warm, bright Meaford spring day trying to cheer us up.
These days we need all the help we can get.
Thanks, Mother Nature.
David MacDougall, Meaford
