June 1, 1930 – May 28, 2026
Born in Meaford, Ontario, to Leone Woolley and Fred Hepple on June 1, 1930, Mary passed away peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, British Columbia, on May 28, 2026.
Mary was the beloved wife of Robert Harding Davie and mother of the late Kevin R. Davie. She is survived by her daughter, Karin E. Davie of Seattle, Washington; her brother, Daryl Hepple of New Zealand; and many extended family members.
Mary began her adult life in Toronto as a wife and mother’s aide before embracing her role as a devoted mother. She volunteered at the historic MacKenzie House in Willowdale, giving tours and demonstrating traditional spinning techniques. While serving as a volunteer librarian with the Toronto Board of Education, she earned a degree in Library Science and later worked for the North York Public Library.
In mid-career, Mary joined Morgan Stanley’s Toronto office, where she served as chief librarian and researcher for ten years. Throughout her life, she and her husband of 56 years shared a passion for learning, frequently taking university courses in the arts and humanities.
A dedicated supporter of the arts and culture, Mary was active in the Spinners and Weavers Association and supported organizations including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Canadian Library Association. She loved classical music, Dixieland jazz, literature, theatre, and lifelong learning.
Mary was a founding member of the Meaford Town Hall Players Theatre Group. An avid reader and traveller, she enjoyed hiking the Bruce Trail, visiting museums and historic sites, reading Louise Penny novels, tending her plants, swimming in Georgian Bay, and feeding hummingbirds. After retiring to Victoria, she and her husband became active members of the Newcomers Society and formed many lasting friendships.
