Dear Sir,
I am 84 years old and have never written a letter to a newspaper – but your rant (The 3Rs…Rants, Raves & Rumours, April 2, 2026 print edition) inspired me to write. I have read your previous rants and it is obvious you hate President Trump.
I have heard people talking about “TDS – Donald Trump Syndrome” – but your article shows just how much you suffer from it. You said you hated the “wretched Iranian regime” – but because it was President Trump doing something to bring it to a halt – you sided with the “wretched regime” and joined with them – enjoying mocking him. Yes – you side with the wretched regime you say you hate – you deserve each other. You said about the war “dragging on”. Have you ever seen a shorter one? I can only assume that you are so inflicted with TDS that it is impossible for you to see how insane and illogical your statements are.
Like any sane person you wish for freedom from oppression for the Iranian people – but again because it is President Trump who is doing something about it – you can’t even find it within yourself to applaud it – or at least partly agree with it. Unlike you – Iranians around the world are out in the streets cheering and celebrating what President Trump has done – but not you – you side with the regime. Should they go out in the streets of Iran they will be like the thousands who have done so – be killed!
Like most critics – all you do is criticize and tear down – but never offer a solution. The stated goal of the wretched Iranian regime – is to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. For the past twelve years – with the 1.9 billion dollars surrendered to the requests of Iran by President Obama – they have been building underground factories making thousands of missiles to do just that. Unless you have a solution – I can only assume you are okay with that your solution would be to wait until they do that before you would do anything about it. And if that did happen – because of your TDS – you would be the first to rant that Trump should have done something about it.
So do a rant and show us just how more intelligent you are than the wretched terrible President Trump – and how you would free the Iranian people from the wretched regime. I look forward to that.
With a different opinion,
James Neale, Meaford
Editor’s Note:
I don’t hate anyone, but I do hate war.
For the benefit of our online readers, or those who might have missed our April 2, 2026 print issue, below is what I wrote as part of that 3Rs…Rants, Raves & Rumours column:
Make no mistake, the Iranian regime is a horrible, wretched, and often violent regime. Iran is an authoritarian theocracy, a dictatorship run by an unelected Supreme Leader who has the ultimate authority. Their history is one of terror and violence and human rights violations. I would never root for the Iranian regime, but I am always pulling for the Iranian people to find the freedom from oppression that they deserve.
With such a wretched regime there is nothing to like, there is nothing to root for, so I have been conflicted recently because as the U.S.-Israel war in Iran drags on, now for more than a month, I have found myself enjoying watching Iran mock and troll U.S. President Donald Trump, himself a wretched and horrible leader.
President Trump is not one to taking mockery in stride, he has a very thin skin, but if any western leader deserves some significant push-back, or even mockery, it is certainly Donald Trump.
President Trump chose this war, a war that many have suggested from the outset is unwise. Whether this war lasts another month, or if it drags on for years, it is an unnecessary war undertaken at a time when Iran was not seen by most as an imminent threat.
All war is horrible, but I will continue to quietly enjoy the mockery of a man who has been demanding the Nobel Peace Prize for years, yet initiated an unnecessary and unjust war that he has insisted for weeks has been already won. Recently he suggested that the United States would hit Iran’s strategically important Kharg Island again “just for fun”.
