Electric Eclectics 2026 Cancelled

Electric Eclectics organizers have announced the cancellation of their 2026 festival due to the sudden loss of 50 percent of their annual funding.

This significant reduction in funding makes it financially impossible to present what would have been their 21st annual summer festival of sound art and experimental music taking place at the Funny Farm, a 100-acre property in rural Meaford, Ontario,” said organizers.

The festival organizers determined that the risk of substantial financial losses would likely result in not being able to pay festival staff and operating costs.

Hosted annually since 2006, Electric Eclectics has established itself as one of Canada’s most prominent experimental music festivals, presenting such avant-garde legends as Tony Conrad, David Rosenboom, and the Nihilist Spasm Band, as well as world-renowned experimental musicians Alexander Hacke, Danielle de Picciotto, Damo Suzuki, John Oswald, Laura Ortman, Lee Ranaldo, Dorit Chrysler, and Edwin van der Heide, alongside a multitude of experimental musicians from across Canada and around the world.

Festival organizers Gordon Monahan and Laura Kikauka wish to thank all of Electric Eclectics staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly each year to make the festival a success, as well as the enthusiastic and ever-expanding audience who attended and supported the festival over many years,” said organizers.

The cancellation of this year’s Electric Eclectics leaves the organization in limbo. An announcement regarding future plans will be made later this year.
