Directors and Actor Join MIFF 2025 to Discuss Their Latest Films

The Meaford International Film Festival (MIFF) has announced that directors Georgi Unkovski and Karan Kandhari will be joining the festival via zoom to talk about their award-winning films. The festival will take place at Meaford Hall September 18-21 and is a fundraiser for the Meaford Culture Foundation, which supports arts and culture programs in the community.

Sister Midnight, which Karan Kandhari wrote and directed, will be the Friday evening film, and is a genre-bending comedy about a misanthropic newlywed who discovers certain feral impulses that land her in unlikely situations.

DJ Ahmet, written and directed by Georgi Unkovski, is a comedy/drama about a 15-year-old boy from a remote Macedonian village who escapes into music amidst parental expectations, societal conservatism, and forbidden love. The film will be shown Saturday evening.

Actor Brendan McNamee from The Penguin Lessons will be the special guest on Sunday evening to discuss the film.

It is always so insightful to discuss films with the filmmakers themselves and gain a deeper understanding of their process. I always walk away with an even greater appreciation of their work and enjoy getting a peek behind the magic. I hope visitors to MIFF will walk away with the same satisfaction,” said Anna den Hengst, Artistic Director, MIFF.

Each screening will also be accompanied by a short film by an emerging filmmaker from the Grey Bruce Youth Film Festival.
