Fire Risk Increased to High in Meaford

The fire risk level in the Municipality of Meaford has increased from moderate to high as of Monday, August 11.

Recent dry conditions and continued lack of rainfall have created an environment where fires can start easily and spread quickly. The Municipality of Meaford and the Meaford Fire Department are urging all residents to take extra care when conducting any open-air burning.

What High Risk Means:

  • Fire pits and outdoor fireplaces are permitted.
  • For all large open-air burning (bonfires, brush fires, controlled fires, and demolition fires) use extreme caution.

If you are burning:

  • Never leave your fire unattended.
  • Keep water, tools, or another means of extinguishment close by.
  • Ensure the fire is completely out before leaving the area.

Fire risk levels can change daily depending on weather conditions. Residents are asked to check the current fire risk level before starting any burn at meaford.burnpermits.com
