OPP Warn Residents of Phone Scam

Grey Bruce OPP are warning residents of a phone scam where individuals are falsely claiming to represent the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department. These scammers are asking for $500 donations via credit card or e-transfer.

The South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department does not solicit donations by phone and would never ask for money in this way. Their fundraising efforts involve partnerships with local community businesses.

If you receive a call like this:

· DO NOT provide any personal or financial information.

· REPORT the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.

You work hard for your money, so work hard to protect it. Do not hand it over to a smooth-talking con artist. Fraud is a multi-billion dollar per year business that will only stop when the con artists stop making money.

For more information on fraud prevention, visit opp.ca/fraud and sfo.opp.ca.

If you suspect fraudulent activity or have been a victim of fraud, report it immediately to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online via the Fraud Reporting System.
