After approving a motion at their March 10 meeting, Meaford’s council has directed municipal staff to prepare a bylaw to govern community benefits agreements for projects that are not covered by the provincial Planning Act, and the municipality is seeking feedback from residents as part of the process of preparing the bylaw.
On March 24, staff presented a proposed by-law and started a 30-day period for public feedback. This by-law is especially important for large projects like the proposed Pumped Storage Project, but it would also apply to other developments in the future.
“The Municipality of Meaford is asking for input from residents, community groups, and local businesses on a new Community Benefits Agreement By-law. This by-law would set rules for big projects that aren’t covered by the Planning Act. It is meant to help Meaford and its residents understand how these projects could affect the community,” said the municipality in a media release issued last week.
The municipality will gather public feedback until April 21, and then a report including community input will be presented to council during their April 28 meeting.
Residents and community groups are encouraged to review the proposed by-law, which is available on the municipal website, and share their thoughts by emailing communitybenefitsbylaw@meaford.ca.
