Save Georgian Bay’s Annual Polar Dip Going Virtual

Local advocacy group Save Georgian Bay announced on Monday that their annual ‘Save the Bay’ polar dip will be held virtually due to unsafe conditions on the shoreline.

While we love winter in Meaford, this year’s extreme weather has made the park and shoreline unsafe for gathering and dipping. As a result, the 4th Annual Save the Bay Polar Dip originally planned for Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Fred Raper Park will not go ahead as planned. But don’t worry—we’re still going full steam ahead with a super fun virtual event,” said Save Georgian Bay. “Although we can’t gather in person this year, we can still unite virtually to support the cause. Head over to our social media channels to like, comment, and cheer on the brave dippers as they share their cold-weather challenge videos.”

The organization said that, “Whether in person or virtual, this event is an important fundraiser to raise awareness about TC Energy’s proposed open-loop pumped storage project in Meaford.”

If approved, Save Georgian Bay said that the multi-billion dollar project could harm the Niagara Escarpment and threaten the freshwater resources of Georgian Bay.

The funds raised will directly support our fight to stop this project,” said Save Georgian Bay. “A huge thank you to all our dippers, donors, and supporters for rolling with this pivot. Your continued enthusiasm for this important cause means the world to us!”
