Owen Sound anthologist Joan Beecroft has completed her fifth collection of themed stories and images from local residents. Aging in Place: Exploring Options in Grey-Bruce includes narratives, essays, poems, art, and more from 27 writers and artists.
Everyone is invited to attend the book launch, which will take place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library. Many of the contributors will be present to read from and sign copies of Aging in Place.
In her foreword, Marilyn Struthers writes: “These stories are beautifully crafted: some use humour, others are rougher, cranky, or even painful in their honesty and drive to depict.” Some are reflective; some are instructive; some are reminiscent; and some question the future. All the contributors dig deep to provide unique perspectives on aging in place in our community.
Since 1987, The Ginger Press has published over 150 books featuring Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound, including Beecroft’s books: Growing Up Gay in Bruce and Grey; 20/20 Hindsight: Being Gay in Bruce and Grey; A Place to Stand: Stories from Newcomers to Bruce & Grey; Things That Used to Matter; and Aging in Place. 147 contributors, many of whom are previously unpublished, are included in Beecroft’s books.
