This year for the Canada Road Safety Strategy 2025 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is promoting and enforcing laws around safety equipment for the annual Canada Day campaign which runs from Friday June 21 through Monday July 1, 2024.
During this time, the Grey Bruce OPP will be focusing on increasing public awareness and compliance with safe driving practices, specifically targeting the “Big Four” factors related in death and injuries on our highways, trails and waterways which include impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and lack of occupant restraint/safety equipment. Canada Day Week also has a focus on Off Road Vehicle (ORV) and Motorcycle Helmet use, Marine personal flotation devices and safety equipment compliance.
The Grey Bruce OPP laid a total of 272 traffic related charges during last year’s Canada Day Week campaign. These included:
- 135 speeding
- 10 Stunt driving charges
- 31 passenger – fail to properly wear seatbelt
- 2 Impaired driving
Police will be patrolling our roadways, waterways and trails providing education or enforcement as necessary, to ensure everyone safely arrives at their destinations.
