Recently some local athletes travelled to Waterloo to compete at the Provincial Special Olympics Spring Games, including Gordon Best from Meaford, who competed in basketball, earning a silver medal for his team’s efforts.
The four day event was held from May 23 to May 26, with more than 2,500 athletes, coaches, and volunteers from across the province participating.
“We would like to extend a very special thank you to Godard’s Independent Grocer. On very short notice, they put together a fundraising barbeque, with help from their staff and local athletes, with all proceeds going to the Spring Games,” said Gordon’s mother, Elizabeth, who along with her husband Ian are thankful for the local support.
The barbeque raised $1,000 for the Spring Games.
Last week, Gordon stopped by the Independent Grocer with his silver medal proudly displayed around his neck to offer thanks in person.
“Once again, a very big thanks to Pina and Kevin Godard for being so generous,” said Gordon’s parents.
