Dear Editor,
I saw the demonstration about trans kids in school. It reminded me of my aunt, who still had scars about glasses when she died at 82. The kids used to cruelly yell at her, “Boys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses.” It stuck.
We need to call for protection for trans kids, but what about kids too tall, too short, too fat, the wrong shade, the wrong religion, learning challenged, bad families, speech impaired or all the rest of the differences? ALL kids matter. All kids need respect and protection. Honour, honesty, personal strength, compassion, respect for others starts at home. Let’s get started.
Sincerely,
Roberta Docherty, Meaford
