In 2015, Christ Church sponsored a Syrian family following the world-wide news of their plight at home. Rajab & Hanan with their four children arrived and were supported by the church and the community as they settled into their new life in Meaford.
Many became familiar with Rajab and Syrian food, as he established a presence at the Meaford Farmers’ Market.
Last Thursday, February 9, the family received their Canadian citizenship in a Zoom ceremony. In the accompanying picture we see Rajab Al Shearer and Hanan Awij with their children Banin, Othman, Safa, and Aline, along with a picture of the presiding official on the Zoom meeting.
“We are all very proud of them and congratulate them,” said the church volunteers.
