The Meaford Hospital Foundation has received a cheque for $201,916.15 as a bequest from the estate of Helen I. Dales (Alan H. Dales). Mrs. Dales died September 22, 2021, at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband Alan on July 14, 2018, at the age of 95.
Family members gathered at Meaford Hospital to present the Dales’ Estate gift to Foundation volunteers and staff. “They were always grateful for the care and help from the health community in Meaford and were happy to be able to give back,” said Estate Trustee and nephew Ian Pember.
Helen Dales (McDonald) and Alan Dales were both raised in the Beaver Valley/Bognor and Clarksburg/Thornbury area. They were married in February 1961.
For several years, the Dales helped Alan’s parents on the family farm near Heathcote. After his parents retired, Alan and Helen continued to live and work in the Thornbury area. In retirement, they shared many happy years travelling throughout Canada and the U.S. in their motorhome.
The Foundation will use the gift for a number of priority projects at Meaford Hospital that include renovations and future equipment purchases that will benefit patients.
“The Meaford Hospital Foundation sincerely appreciates this generous gift. We are so grateful that the Dales included us when they planned their Estate,” said Joelle Adelson, Treasurer, Meaford Hospital Foundation.
“Not only is the hospital important to our community, our community is important to the hospital,” said Graham Fry, Grey Bruce Health Services, Meaford Site Manager. “Their generous gift will touch the lives of family, friends and neighbours for years to come.”
