A new initiative in downtown Owen Sound will combine a moveable feast with a fundraiser for Supportive Outreach Services (SOS) and provide dozens of customers for three of Owen Sound’s finest eating establishments.
The Downtown Dine Around on Tuesday, November 29, will start at Casero’s (Mexican food for appetizers), continue at Sabitri’s (Nepalese entree), and finish at The Palate Cafe (for an elegant dessert). Each restaurant will feature their signature dish, and speakers will explain aspects of the SOS program. Participants can head to Heartwood Hall for Open Mic ($5) after dinner for more downtown fun.
Tickets ($75) include dinner and a donation to SOS (a tax receipt for $25 will be issued) and are available at www.downtowndinearound.ca and The Ginger Press. Participants can choose their start time when purchasing their ticket(s).
“This event began as a way to encourage folks to come downtown after dark,” explained organizer Maryann Thomas of The Ginger Press. “Many people have told me they’re not comfortable here in the evenings, and I wanted them to have an experience that was safe and fun. We added in the fundraising component for Supportive Outreach Services (SOS), a consortium of agencies which provides medical, mental health, and social supports to those who need it. And of course, these days, it’s especially important to support our independent restaurants. The Downtown Dine Around takes place on Giving Tuesday, the world’s largest generosity movement.”
