Freshness is Back With The Good Food Box

Staff

Freshness is Back With The Good Food BoxThe Good Food Box is back. The 17 sites across Grey Bruce are resuming operations with increased protective measures related to COVID-19, such as hand sanitizers, masks, and distancing practices.

We thank Bruce County and Grey County for their support in adapting our sites so we can safely operate during COVID-19,” said Public Health Dietitian Laura Needham. “It takes a whole community to make the Good Food Box so successful.”

With the support of about 145 volunteers across Grey Bruce and through buying wholesale, the Good Food Box makes fresh fruits and vegetables more affordable for all community members, at approximately 30% less than retail. The program supports the local food system and healthy eating. Customers report that the program is good value and has helped them to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Anyone in Grey Bruce is encouraged to order the boxes. More orders create greater discounts through bulk purchasing. The boxes are pre-ordered for $16-$20 each and packed by volunteers on the distribution date. Community members can find information on a Good Food Box location close to them on 211 or visit: www.publichealthgreybruce.on.ca/Your-Health/Eating-Well/Community-Food-Programs#GFBP

A sponsoring system is also in place, allowing organizations and businesses to purchase boxes for clients. Sponsored boxes can be purchased through the Owen Sound location, OSHaRE, but are available for all Good Food Box locations.
