Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
If you’ve heard about the plastic film recycling program in Meaford, that’s good. Plastic bags and film are everywhere and can actually be sold by the municipality, thus reducing our property taxes, maybe. You do have to take your accumulated plastic in the the transfer station yourself though.
The bad: Meaford charges interest on late payments of utilities bills, etc.. The interest rate is an outrageous, and I thought illegal, 2% per month, compounded monthly, for a criminal interest rate of 28% per annum. I try never to be late on any bill payments but when I saw this I saw red. Even the most grasping, gouging, credit companies don’t charge this much. Council should address this.
