Staff

MondayGang225Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Georgian Triangle (BBBSGT) announced today that the 2015 Bowl for Kids’ Sake presented by Crozier & Associates raised over $100,000 in the event’s 37th year. This was the 6th year running a second location at Meaford Bowl.

This year $8,200 was raised from the Meaford and Thornbury communities at Meaford Bowl which brings the five-year total to over $61,000 raised in Grey County.

Organizers noted the top fundraising team in Meaford – The Special Olympics team who raised $1,240.

The Board of Directors appreciates the overwhelming support of our community. The dollars that were contributed will directly benefit young people in the Georgian Triangle,” said Jennifer Ridsdale, Board of Directors President

Executive Director Jarvis Strong said “We had nearly 900 bowlers participate and over 100 businesses and organizations support the event this year! BBBSGT would like to extend a special thank you to our title sponsor Crozier & Associates. This event would not happen without the support of The Hanley Family of Georgian Bowl and Dave Brown of Meaford Bowl. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Collingwood Progress Club (now joining forces with the Collingwood Optimist Club) who came forward with an outstanding donation of $3,500 which put us just over the $100,000 mark. Incredible! As always, the generosity of this community continues to amaze us. We are very grateful.”

Many community sponsors provided prizes for the top fundraisers to choose from. Big Brother Pete Viskovich raised $1,973 and won a one week getaway at Wayne and Hilda Noble’s Stowe, Vermont condominium. Jen Koen had a surprise April donation after Grand Prizes had been announced and finished with $1,996. Jen will be enjoying a $300 Gift Certificate from Scandinave Spa. Sue Bragg will be getting a bird’s eye view of South Georgian Bay thanks to Genesis Flight Centre. While David Lindsay and April Smith will both enjoy a $100 gift certificate from Loblaw Great Food.

Our top fundraising team was the Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteers & Staff team who raised an incredible $4,498 and won gift certificates for Catch 22 Fresh Market Grill and The Iron Skillet. Special mention goes to the second place team, Collins Barrow (formerly Gaviller & Company LLP) who have been one of the top fundraising teams for many years,” said organizers.

This year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake included a wine raffle. The Board of Directors and friends donated 40 bottles of wine that helped to add $6,550 to the grand total. The lucky winner was Kate Lye of Meaford.

The support from the community allows Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Georgian Triangle to continue their many programs such as: The Homework Club, Georgian Blue Gardens Afterschool Program, Mentoring for Success Youth Mentoring, Kids, Cops and Communities, The Boys Club, Go Girls!, along with traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters matching program and In-School Mentoring.

The agency serves 250 children and youth in five municipalities: Clearview Township, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Town of Blue Mountains and Meaford.
