Letter to the Editor
Editor,
On April 18 I spent a very pleasant three hours in the community centre packing boxes with “stuff”. All the “stuff” was destined for several local community organizations that had indicated they wanted the “stuff”. This was Meaford’s second Re-Use Fair.
So all the “stuff” that people wanted was joined up with a bunch of “stuff” that others didn’t want. Kind of an efficient free market capitalism without money! And even more dazzling was where the “stuff” ( all 1792.2 lbs of it ) did NOT go; to the landfill. Yea!
And what’s even better is that waste diversion is a major thrust of our municipality. Appropriately the Re-Use Fair did enjoy considerable municipal support. Let’s hope that this support will continue as the Re-Use Fair becomes part of what we do here in Meaford. All councillors and senior staff will always be welcome to show up for an hour or two to box or sort ‘”stuff”. Or just to check it out. Speaking personally, the experience is….well…priceless!”
