One of the many events taking place during Meaford’s Earth Week initiative will be an information session that will explore some of the concerns associated with modern food packaging.

Food Packaging Examined will be presented by Women for the Water, and hosted by the Meaford Area Community Association (MACA) on April 22 at the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Centre.

Women for the Water is a non-profit organization that dedicates its efforts to raising awareness of environmental issues, with a particular focus on our water ecosystem.

While packaging is a requirement for the transport and sale of food products, with some types of packaging there is a concern about contaminants leaching into the food it contains. The session on April 22 will review various types of packaging and the associated risks in order to help those who attend make more informed choices in the grocery store.

The session will be held from 7 to 9 pm on April 22, admission is by donation, and refreshments will be made available by the Meaford United Church Outreach Committee.
