Saving Georgian Bay Youth Film Contest – Call for Submissions

Staff

Save Georgian Bay Youth Film Contest is seeking film submissions focusing on the potential detrimental effects of the proposed TC Energy pumped storage facility on the shore of Georgian Bay.

The contest is looking for short film submissions addressing various impacts of the proposed project, including categories that examine environmental, fish and wildlife, and community impact, as well as alternative technologies for energy efficiency or storage.

Cash prizes will be given in each category according to age group (tween, youth, and family), and participation prizes will be given to all contestants.

Enter a short animated or live action film (ten minutes maximum). Submission is online so you can participate no matter where you live.

The films will be shown to the officials making the decision whether to accept the proposed plans and build the hydro plant with all the many consequences on the environment, endangered species, water quality, and local communities. We’re hoping the community’s voice will be heard and instrumental in stopping this project,” said Joanne Devaney, organizer of the Save Georgian Bay Youth Film Contest.

Registration is required and contestants are asked to register before May 1, by emailing georgianbaycontest@gmail.com. After registration, participants will receive updates about prizes, possible deadline extension (due to COVID-19), and submission instructions.

The deadline to submit a film is Monday, May 11.

The organizers are asking participants to keep COVID-19 in mind and not engage in any activities which might put anyone at risk while working on this project.
