Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
I am writing to voice my support for the teachers in Ontario in their quest to maintain our world-wide, recognized excellent education system.
Teachers are fighting on behalf of parents and students. I am a grandparent with an autistic grandson. Our diverse classrooms need more not fewer teachers and supports to address differences so all children can reach their potential. E-learning has been proven to be ineffective for the majority of adolescents’ learning styles and maturity levels. Parents want less screen time for their kids, not more.
Teachers deserve a wage increase and are only asking to keep pace with inflation. This is less than the police got and much less then Lecce’s 14% increase. The minister went to private school and does not understand the demands of a public classroom. The money wasted by cancelling green energy projects is more then it would cost to fund what teachers are asking. The provincial debt is not as dire as the Conservatives claim.
I support teachers and education workers in their reasonable requests. The Government must stop attacking hardworking educators, start showing up at the bargaining table, and recognize the invaluable service educators provide to all of society. All children are our future, not just those who go to private schools.
Sincerely,
Norah Beatty, Meaford
