Preparations For This Year’s Scarecrow Invasion in Full Swing

Staff

This year’s line-up of book-loving scarecrows are assembled and being dressed, thanks to the Georgian Bay Community School students, a team of dedicated volunteers, and the organizational skills of decorating chairs Ruthann Noble and Candy Yeandle and their team captains.

There’s also some exciting news to share. This year, scarecrows will invade Bognor. Volunteers from Bognor have designed and dressed 36 unique scarecrows based on popular children’s fairy tales and book characters in keeping with this year’s Scarecrows’ Book Invasion theme, making this year’s invasion truly a municipality-wide celebration.

Like clockwork, the scarecrows will invade downtown Meaford, Station Hill, and for the first time, Bognor, during the first week of September.

Once again, businesses throughout the municipality are invited to create scarecrow displays and compete for the Patches trophy. Judging begins October 1.

The ever-popular parade, festival, and apple pie contest are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4th – parade on Sykes Street at 6 p.m., festival at Rotary Harbour Pavilion to follow, and winning apple pies to be auctioned off during the festival.
