Have Your Say About the Future of Memorial Park

The Municipality of Meaford is now determining the future of Memorial Park through the development of a 25-year Master Plan for the park.

Three sessions were held with special interest groups in November/December 2018, and on April 15, the municipality hosted a public information meeting where a number of concepts for the future of the park were presented. However, many in the community expressed concern that the public participation process has been inadequate and that the three-week timeline for public feedback was too short.

Consequently, a number of residents formed Advocates for Memorial Park (AMP). While our membership is diverse with participants representing a variety of different interests, we share a common goal: to ensure all Meaford residents have the opportunity to participate more fully in shaping the future of our public park.

As a first step, AMP asked Municipal Council to extend the public input period to late September. We were successful. At its May 27 meeting, Council endorsed the request and voted to extend the deadline to September 23.

In the next few weeks, AMP will distribute a survey to get the public’s input into the future of Memorial Park. They will also hold a public meeting to share information and gather your thoughts in order to include them in their presentation to Council on September 23.
