The Meaford Rotary Club made a contribution of $1,000 in each of their names to the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation carries out an array of programs that achieve beneficial changes internationally, including improved living conditions, increased food production, better education, and wider availability of treatment and rehabilitation for the sick and disabled.

Four members of the Meaford community who are not Rotarians but shared the values were also recognized. Mary Solomon, Marilyn Morris, Amy Teed Acres, and Dan White were presented with gifts of emblems, certificates, and pins as new Paul Harris Fellows, for their volunteer work in the community.

The Fellowship is named for Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905. The presentations were made by Bernard Brunner, president of the Meaford Rotary, at the Terrace Room in Meaford Hall.
