wgweston donation library2019270On Thursday, April 4, a group of library supporters met to acknowledge a significant donation to the new Meaford Public Library building – a cheque for $15,000 from the W. Garfield Weston Foundation.

The donation came to the library thanks to Bill MacDonald, owner of Bill’s Valu-mart in Meaford, who suggested the new library building project to the W. Garfield Weston Foundation. Bill’s Valu-mart in Meaford is a franchise within Loblaw Company Limited, part of George Weston Limited, which funds the W. Garfield Weston Foundation.

At the cheque presentation, Bill MacDonald said, “As part of Loblaw Company Limited, I have been given the great honour of being the local presenter of grant monies from the W. Garfield Weston Foundation. I am excited to present this cheque in the amount of $15,000 to the Friends of the Meaford Library for the new library building.”

Peter Bantock, chair of the new Meaford Public Library Fundraising Committee, commented at the presentation, “The Fundraising Committee would like to thank Bill MacDonald for recommending the library building project to the W. Garfield Weston Foundation and we would also like to thank Foundation Trustee Stew Green for initiating the grant. The Committee greatly appreciates this very generous contribution from the Foundation.”

Donations to the campaign can be made at www.meaford.ca/newlibrary.
