United Senior Citizens of Ontario district representative Doug Walsh personally delivered a USCO flag to the Meaford 55+ Friendship Club on Tuesday, March 26, to recognize the local club’s support of the USCO goal to promote the interests of senior citizens locally and provincially.

Like the USCO, the Meaford 55+ Friendship Club promotes wellness, fitness, safety, and recreation. Members meet weekly September to June for recreation and friendship and on special occasions for meals, luncheons, guest speakers, and day trips.

There are presently 110 members, according to club treasurer Linda Svajda. “There are anywhere from 45-70 seniors at the Tuesday gatherings and more than 80 for meals, luncheons, the occasional picnic, and special occasion celebrations,” she said.

Club president Walter Svajda welcomed Doug Walsh to the meeting. The USCO advocates on behalf of senior citizens throughout the province, of which 200,000 are USCO members, on matters such as health programs and regulations, housing, car insurance, and property taxes.
