The five Foundations supporting Grey Bruce Health Services are pleased to announce that they have raised $1,216,440 for a new MRI for patients across both counties.

The goal is to raise $4.7 million to purchase and install a new MRI in the Owen Sound Regional Hospital.

All of the Foundations have recently sent out their holiday fundraising letters, and a portion of the donations received will go towards the MRI.

We know there are many competing charitable requests and family priorities at this time of year, and we sincerely appreciate the support from all of our communities in bringing a new MRI to the region,” said Dr. Colin McIver, GBHS Chief of Medical Imaging. “Our communities purchased the first MRI in the area 14 years ago, and I am confident that together we can reach our goal again and offer patients even better care with the latest in MRI technology.”

The new MRI will reduce wait times with faster scans, and produce a higher quality of images for more accurate diagnosis. The new MRI will also be larger and more comfortable for patients, and quieter. The new system is expected to be installed by the Spring of 2019.

In addition to the holiday letter campaigns, each Foundation is running a number of fundraising initiatives, including a radio-thon, a curling bonspiel, online auction, gift wrapping stations, and more. All five Foundations are involved in the Catch the Ace lottery, now in its 17th week, with one winner every week and a jackpot of about $14,000. All proceeds from the lottery will go towards the MRI.

The five Foundations working together to purchase the MRI are: Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation; Centre Grey Health Services Foundation; Meaford Hospital Foundation; Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation and Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
