GBCS We Scare for Hunger food drive

GBCS We Scare for Hunger food drive

When local high school students come knocking on your door on Hallowe’en night, chances are they will not be trick or treating for candy. More likely they will be asking for non-perishable goods.

Georgian Bay Community School (GBCS) student council will again partner with students across Canada under the banner of Free the Children’s We Charity, an international charity program. We Charity aims to nurture compassion in students and give students the tools to effect social change, locally and globally.

The food that GBCS students collect on Hallowe’en will be donated to the Golden Town Outreach food bank for people in need locally, according to Natalia Heinke. “Our goal is to collect 650 items in Meaford, Thornbury, and Heathcote. That’s 150 more items than the 500 collected last year,” she said.

Principal Kathy Archer fully supports the students’ food drive and has promised a bowl of hot chili to all students who deliver the food that they collect to her house on Hallowe’en.

Donations of non-perishables can also be made at Bill’s valu-mart.
