opp logo270On December 11, 2017 at approximately 4:48 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Highway 26 near Grey Road 112 in the Municipality of Meaford after a 2012 Kia travelling westbound on Highway 26 struck an object on the travelled portion of the highway. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle’s undercarriage and caused the air bags to deploy.

Three other vehicles sustained flat tires after colliding with the object which turned out to be a drive shaft from a tractor trailer. The drive shaft, measuring approximately three feet in length, was partially covered by snow making it difficult to see.

There were no injuries reported.

Police do not have any knowledge as to how the drive shaft ended up on the highway, therefore, anyone with information that can assist is asked to call Grey County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
