Meaford Community Gardens Hoping For Return of Tool Bag

Letter to the Editor

Dear editor,

It is with great frustration that I write this letter. This past weekend, someone lifted a tool bag containing two cordless power drills (orange & black RIGID drills) and other tools from the hoop greenhouse and a number of watering cans from the Georgian Bay Community School Community Garden. If whomever took these items can please return them where they found them, that would be greatly appreciated.

The Meaford Community Gardens network is a volunteer-driven organization, with over 20 volunteers, which provides space for people to grow food at a number of locations around the town of Meaford. Gardens are located at Georgian Bay Community School, St. Vincent Euphrasia School, Victoria Village and raised beds in front of the Church of the Nazarene and beside the Meaford Public Library.

The network also helps to grow food for people in need, with some of the produce from the gardens being distributed through the Golden Town Outreach Food Bank and the pay-what-you-can Meaford Community Gardens Market, which happens every Thursday from 5-6:30pm, from the end of June until the end of August, in front of the Church of the Nazarene and beside Many Hands of Meaford on the corner of Sykes and Collingwood St.. In addition, Meaford Community Gardens also facilitates garden clubs with youth throughout the summer, with one happening at The Village Green Community Garden at Victoria Village every Sunday from 3-4:30pm, as well as workshops related to food production, gardening and healthy eating and tours with school groups.

If anyone is interested in getting involved with Meaford Community Gardens, please contact Jaden Calvert at jaden.calvert@gmail.com or Mary Bryant at 519-538-2558.
