Two Injured After Plane Crash at Billy Bishop Airport

On July 9, 2017 at approximately 2:36 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a plane crash during the Wings & Wheels event at the Billy Bishop Regional Airport located in the Municipality of Meaford, east of Owen Sound.

The aircraft, a WWII Harvard Mark4, was landing when it left the runway and flipped in the field. There were two people on board. The pilot, a 46 year old Toronto man, and a 21 year old female passenger from the Municipality of West Grey sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. The female was treated at the scene and released. The pilot was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.

An off-duty physician and a nurse, visiting the event, came to the assistance of the victims.  Grey County Paramedic Services (EMS) and the Inter-Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) was notified and will continue the investigation.
