BJHS Thanks Supporters of Family Fun Day

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

Beautiful Joe Heritage Society would like to “Thank all of those that contributed and enjoyed our first Family Fun Day” at Beautiful Joe Park last Sunday.

Mother Nature had different plans than ours, even so, we had many brave and daring souls come out and enjoy the festivities. Due to the weather, most activities were provided inside the pavilion.

Rotary Club volunteers BBQ’d for us. They got pretty wet too! Did you know that the Rotary Club was responsible for clearing the land at Beautiful Joe Park in 1963?

Constable Hick and his canine partner Cash gave us a very informative talk and demonstration from the OPP Canine Unit. Check out the pictures on Facebook.

Music was performed by Jayden Grahlman and songs by Emma Wright.

Canines of Mind and Gordon Pet Services provided practical dog training demos and tips!

Meaford Search and Rescue provided the Tug of War rope for us.

Meaford Fire Department, of course, beat eight of us in the Tug of War! Next time they need more suited opponents to challenge them! They are too strong, or is it that we are too weak???

Amy at the Meaford Public Library kept the children busy with a story time of the sequel book to Beautiful Joe called Beautiful Joe’s Paradise. The children thoroughly enjoyed the reading as well as the craft activities that Amy had prepared for them. Everyone was smiling!

Rice’s Home Hardware provided the BBQ.

Food donations were from: Bill’s Valu-mart, Grandview Farms, J-Mar Foods, Sheila’s Sticky Sweet Stuff, and Grandma Lambe’s.

Prize donations came from Johnny B’s Automotive Care, Simply Unique Flowers and Gifts, Thornbury Veterinary Hospital, and Meaford Convenience and Pet Stop.

The vendors included Ripless Ranch Pet Food and Sail Restaurant and Catering.

Our mayor Barb Clumpus judged the Best Dressed Pet Contest as well as helped cut the cake and served strawberries and whipped cream too! Check out the winner of the Best Dressed Pet Contest: Lindy and Tinsel, on our Facebook page!

All in all, we raised $300. The best part was that we all had a great time despite the weather!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, to “ALL OF YOU” for making this a great success! We look forward to next year and hope that the sun comes out so that we can play more games and have more fun!

Sincerely,

Lynda Stephens
