Hockey Parents’ Weekly Round-up: Atom LL Season Off To A Start

Once again this year proud Meaford Hockey parents are invited submit their latest updates, in their own words, to let the community know how the local minor hockey teams are doing throughout the season.

The Georgian Shores Atom LL team started their hockey season Saturday October 18 in Meaford facing off against the Collingwood Blackhawks #1 team. With the game underway and 1:11 into the first Collingwood was able to put one in past Jerry Marshall to make the game 1-0. Coming out of the first period with the score still being 1-0 Collingwood was able to net two more making the game a 3-0 game with 2:43 left in the period. Georgian Shores continued to battle and skate hard and with 56 seconds left in the second period Logan Scott was able to score one for the team unassisted and then continued on to score one more with just 6 seconds left in the period. Going into the third the score was now 3-2 and Georgian Shores were playing well. Collingwood came out strong and were able to put two more pucks in the net making it a 5-2 game, but with 1:28 left in the game Logan Scott was able to get his first hat trick of the year. Despite a great effort from the team the final score was 5-3 for the Collingwood Blackhawks.

Heading into Sunday they faced off against the Shelburne Wolves. Large in size this team put up quite a fight scoring 5 goals in the first period with the Georgian Shores team skating hard against all odds. The second period was all Shelburne again with them scoring another 2 goals making the game 7-0 at the periods end. Georgian Shores though would not give up despite the score and continued to play and skate hard. They opened the scoring of the third period just 1:49 on the clock when Brendan Carroll put one past the goalie assisted by Luke Morrow. And just 2:50 later another one was scored for Georgian Shores with Gavin Taylor beating the net minder unassisted making the game 7-2. Shelbure was able to answer back though scoring another four goals making the game almost unreachable, but Georgian Shores did not give up. With just 54 seconds left in the game Logan Scott was able to get one more goal for the team assisted by Khyron Ayton-Lee. Even though the score was 11-3 it was a great game played by all.

Another Game Filled Weekend for Atom LL

On Saturday October 25, 2014 the Georgian Shores Atom LL team traveled to Feversham to face off against the Osprey Hawks. With the game underway the scoring was opened up by Gavin Taylor at 4:15 in the first period assisted by Logan Scott and Brendan Carroll. Then with 1:33 left in the first another goal was scored by Heather Koch unassisted to put the Lightning up 2-0. Going into the second period with just 33 seconds in Jordan Mead was able to put another one passed the net minder assisted by Mackenzie Falls and Brendan Carroll making the game 3-0. Continuing to battle hard at 6:25 of the second the Lightning got another one scored by Mackenzie Falls assisted by Logan Scott and Jordan Mead. Going into the third period the score was 4-0 for the Lightning. With just 8 seconds off the clock Riley McFadden was able to net one assisted by Heather Koch putting the Lightning up by another one. The Hawks were finally able to put one past Jerry Marshall at 3:33 and again at 11:18 in the third period making it a 5-2 game in favor of the Lightning. Battling hard Riley McFadden was able to score another one assisted by Evan Crosskill with just 2:59 left in the period making the final score 6-2 for their first win of the season.

On Sunday October 26, 2014 the team then travelled to Collingwood to play the Blackhawks #2 team. The first period was filled with a lot of energy and played hard by both teams with neither one able to put one in the net. Collingwood however opened the scoring at 4:58 of the second period. Georgian Shores answered back at 6:35 with an unassisted goal by Logan Scott. Heading into the third the game was tied 1-1. Coming on strong and fast Collingwood put 3 more in the net making it a 4-1 game in their favor. The Lightning though would not give up and with 2:55 left in the period Kyron Ayton-Lee assisted by Mackenzie Falls shot one past the goaltender. Collingwood was able to put one more in in the final minute making the game 5-2 for them. Despite the score it was a great game played by all.

The team will be playing at home this weekend. Come on out to the Meaford arena at 11 a.m. on Saturday November 1, 2014 to see them in action.
