I would be lying if I didn’t say I was glad to see the heat wave finally end. The last few weeks of this summer have been difficult on golfers with the constant heat and humidity. The number of rounds at many of our local courses were down slightly, as many golfers chose the beach over the links during the final ‘dog days’ of summer.
There are many advantages to playing golf in the fall. The colours are beginning to change and the leaves are starting to fall. So too are the green fees at most of our local clubs.
Fall rates are in effect until the end of the season which means that you can play a round of golf at a fraction of the cost that you paid in the summer months. Many clubs that offer memberships are extending complimentary rounds for everyone that purchases a membership for 2017.
Tee times are also easier to make as traffic is down on most courses. If you like to play early in the morning, make sure to check weather conditions as there may be frost delays that can push back tee times. If you are planning to play later in the day, realize that sunset in September is much earlier than it was. If you are going out to play nine holes after work, then you will need to tee off before 5 p.m. if you are planning to finish.
Fall means sweater season, so make sure that you are comfortably dressed for those late autumn rounds. The weather this past week has been outstanding. I have had the opportunity to play some golf at a few of our local clubs and at the same time enjoy the warm sunshine. You can get a sunburn at any time of the year, so always remember to pack some sunscreen in your bag.
Most golf stores and pro shops are having sales on equipment, clothing, and accessories at this time of year. There are some great deals on 2016 equipment and clothing lines.
The fall is also a great time to brush up on your golf game. A lesson by a qualified instructor can help you to finally break 80, 90 or 100. You might even be able to rid yourself of that annoying slice that has plagued you all season! A late season tune up can also help you improve both your ball striking and confidence before the 2017 season begins.
If there is a course that you’ve been meaning to play all season, but have not had the time, then perhaps September or October will be your months to play them.
