Grey County OPP issued a news release on the evening of September 15 informing that 57 year-old Robert J. Girard of Windsor Ontario had been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and exceeding 80 milligrams blood alcohol content while operating a vehicle causing an accident with a fatality.

On the evening of September 2, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a serious collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on Highway 26 at the 7th Line in the Municipality of Meaford.

The initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Highway 26 when Girard’s 2012 Dodge Charger, which was westbound, collided with the motorcycle as it attempted to make a left turn onto the 7th Line.

The rider of the motorcycle, 55 year old Allan Bradley Doherty of Meaford, was transported to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Grey County EMS and the Meaford Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigative Unit (TTCI) assisted with the investigation, which is in its early stages.

Police say that Girard is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on October 20, 2016 to speak to the charges.
