PLAY Library Kits Available to Borrow at a Variety of Locations in Southeast Grey County

Staff

PLAYLibraryKit 270Healthy Kids Community Challenge South East Grey & Friends is providing free PLAY Library Kits for families.

These bags are filled with fun equipment to help families be active together, build movement skills, and increase overall physical activity.

The PLAY Library Kits are free to borrow and are available some local libraries (not in Meaford), the Ontario Early Years Centres, Public Health, and the South East Grey Community Health Centre. You can also ask about availability at your school library during the school year.

Two types of kits are available. One is geared to families with children under six years old and the other kit is designed for families of any age. Some of the items you might find in the PLAY Library Kit include: hula hoops, pool noodles, pylons, flying discs, foam dice, bean bags, rubber chickens, soccer balls, skipping ropes, ribbons, rackets, and of course some fun game ideas.

Physical activity has many health benefits and is important for overall wellbeing regardless of age. Developing some basic movement skills, called physical literacy, helps children feel confident and enjoy physical activity now and as they develop into teenagers and adults.

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge strives to make it easier for, and encourage, children & their families to be physically active and eat healthy. The Municipality of Grey Highlands, Township of Southgate, and Township of Chatsworth are working with local schools, public health, the community health centre, other community groups, private businesses, parents and youth. These groups have been working together since September 2015 to encourage families to implement the first them of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge, “Run, Jump, Play, Every Day.”
