At their July 4 meeting, Meaford’s council bid farewell to retiring Fire Chief Mike Molloy, and they officially welcomed incoming Chief Scott Granahan.
Mayor Barb Clumpus thanked Chief Molloy, who had served with Meaford’s fire department since 1995, and became Chief in 2010, for his service to the municipality.
“Our congratulations on a successful career with us, and we wish you many many years in your next career in the sailing world,” Clumpus told Molloy, who is an avid competitive sailor. “It is our pleasure to wish you the best of luck.Strong winds in the right direction, and thanks again for all you have done for us.“
The mayor presented the retiring Chief with a special certificate, and his fellow firefighters presented him with his Fire Chief’s helmet as well as some framed mementos of his firefighting career.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the municipality. I could say that after two months, and I can say that after 21 years. It’s been a fantastic career, an incredible career. I’ve been able to accomplish a lot of things within the fire service, and I’m very grateful to the municipality, it’s been a fantastic career, a career of a lifetime,” Molloy told council.
Mayor Clumpus then introduced incoming Fire Chief, Scott Granahan.
Granahan joined the Brock Township Volunteer Fire Department in 2005 as a firefighter and progressed to the rank of captain. He also worked as an Animal Control Officer with the Ontario SPCA covering Richmond Hill, Markham, and Aurora before joining the Town of Georgina Fire Department within the fire prevention division. He joined the Municipality of Meaford in May 2015 as the Deputy Chief/Fire Prevention Officer before becoming the new Chief.
“Thank you so much for stepping in, and taking on this challenge,” said Mayor Clumpus. “I know that you’re going to do a fantastic job.”
Chief Granahan said it was an honour to step into the Chief’s role.
“It is an honour. Mayor and council, thank you for this opportunity. We’ve been led in a fantastic direction for a number of years, and we’re going to continue on,” said Granahan.
