Staff

The Meaford Public Library and the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society are working together to host Beautiful Joe Days in July.

This will be a two-day event beginning Sunday, July 10 at 1 pm with A Beautiful Joe Story at Meaford Hall. Local Beautiful Joe expert Michael Biggins will present an informative lecture on the importance of Beautiful Joe and Margaret Marshall Saunders to the history, culture and identity of Meaford.

Tickets are free, however space is limited. Please register in advance at the Meaford Public Library.

Thursday, July 14 is Beautiful Joe Day at Beautiful Joe Park. This fun-filled day of free activities begins at 2 pm and offers activities for children and dogs alike. There will be readings from Beautiful Joe, activities, crafts, and ice cream for your pet (sponsored by Pet Valu) and for everyone else as well.

The Meaford Public Library and the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society would like to raise awareness of our local canine hero and promote the literary achievements of Margaret Marshall Saunders as well as her efforts on behalf of the humane treatment of animals.

Evelyn Dean, Chair of the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society, says, “We’re pleased to share some of the real stories behind our beloved story of Beautiful Joe and the writer Margaret Marshall Saunders with our community.”
