Still Time to Register For Walk for Alzheimer’s

Staff

WFAlogoThe Walk for Alzheimer’s is only a few days away, but it is not too late to get involved.

The early response to the Walk for Alzheimer’s has been terrific,” said Deborah Barker, Executive Director of the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce.

We have more teams registered for our first springtime outdoor walk than we ever had for the former Walk for Memories which was held indoors in January,” she said.

More people are registering online every day and we are expecting large turnouts at both of our Walk locations.

Walks for Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, May 7 at Kelso Beach in Owen Sound, and at Sulphur Springs Conservation Area, just south of Hanover.

Registration for both Walks begins at 9 a.m., the Walks officially begin at 10 and activities will wrap up around 11:30. Both sites are accessible, with a variety of walking distances to suit all levels of ability and stamina.

These are very much family events,” Barker said. “Both sites have playgrounds and there will be lots of children’s activities.”

Barker said it is important to note that all of the money raised locally will stay in Grey-Bruce to help support local programs and services for persons with dementia and for their families and their caregivers.

We provide information, education, support and counselling services to more than 3,000 people each year,” she said. “That works out to an average of almost 10 contacts per working day.

Our support staff are very busy and the support we provide helps many people maintain their independence and the highest quality of life possible as the disease progresses.

Please join us as an individual or as part of a team,” Barker said. “You will be helping to make a real difference in the lives of people we all know and care about, right here in Grey-Bruce.”

Participants are encouraged to register and collect pledges online at www.walkforalzheimers.ca

You can also obtain a pledge form from their office at 753 2nd Ave. E. in Owen Sound or by calling 519-376-7230 or -800-265-9013, or on our website www.alzheimer.ca/greybruce.
