The Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Georgian Triangle (BBBSGT) announced last week that the 2016 Crozier & AssociatesBowl for Kids’ Sake raised over $109,000 in the event’s 38th year. Over $5,000 was raised in the Meaford Bowl for Kids’ Sake held on March 22 with 15 teams participating.

This was a very special year because we far exceeded our goal and did it in the shortest period of time in years. We bowled only 12 days in total (compared to 16-20 days in years past) and had a record year for daily average fundraising. This is significant because it allows our staff team to focus more of our time on delivering quality programs instead of spending so much of the winter fundraising. In the end this means that we can do more good for local kids and that’s the name of the game,” said Jarvis Strong, Executive Director of the BBBSGT.

Our Top 5 teams raised $20,000 collectively which is incredible. Despite the event being shorter this year we still had 750 bowling participants, nearly 100 teams and engaged over 3,000 people including our donors. The spirit of this event has ever been stronger! We would like to extend a special thank you to our title sponsor Crozier & Associates Consulting Engineers who have now been the title sponsor for two years. We are very appreciative for all of our 50+ sponsors and will also like to give special thanks to Jan Trude’s Tim Hortons and The Iron Skillet. And of course this event would not happen without the support of the Hanley family of Georgian Bowl and Dave Brown of Meaford Bowl. As always the generosity of this community continues to amaze us. We are truly grateful,” said Strong.

This year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake included a wine raffle. The Board of Directors and friends donated 40 bottles of wine which raised $4,450. The lucky winner was John McMullen of Collingwood.

The support from the community allows Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Georgian Triangle to continue their many programs such as: The Homework Club, Georgian Blue Gardens After school Program, Mentoring for Success Youth Mentoring, Kids, Cops and Communities, Game On! for boys, Go Girls!, and of course our traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters community matching program and In-School Mentoring.

The agency serves nearly 300 children and youth in five municipalities: Clearview Township, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Town of Blue Mountains, and Meaford. Big Brothers Big Sisters receives no government funding. Programs are free and supported by donations from the public, corporations, private and public foundations, service club support, and grants. The BBBSGT family is very appreciative of the community’s loyal support of Bowl for Kids’ Sake event, our agency’s most important annual fundraiser.
