After this week’s snow-storm, the Meaford and District Fire Department is strongly recommending that all parents and caregivers of children make them aware of the potential dangers of playing on, in, and near snow banks.

now forts and tunnels can cause a potentially fatal collapse environment to children of all ages. The temptation for children to play with these unusually large snow banks is of major concern.

The Fire Department is also reminding motorists to take extra caution while driving as above normal heights of snow banks may cause obstructive vision on highways, roadways, and driveways when exiting onto thoroughfares.

Beginning in the morning on Thursday March 3, crews will be performing snow removal in the Meaford downtown core to reduce the snowbank height, particularly along Sykes Street between Trowbridge and Collingwood Streets.

The Meaford & District Fire Department would also like to remind parents and caregivers that the rapidly melting snow that may occur in upcoming weeks can create potentially dangerous environments to children and pets who are playing near open flowing water and ditches. Please practice caution and keep children and animals away from potential hazards.”
