On November 19, the second annual photo contest was held at Georgian Bay Secondary School. Eighty photographs by 25 students in four categories made for some stiff competition.
Three local professional photographers, Jamie Green, Leslie Hallman, and Wendy Webb, volunteered their skills to evaluate the photographs, looking specifically for composition, focus, and subject matter in order to determine the top three images in each of the competition categories of Movement and Motion, Nature, Elements of Design and People and Animals.
The top photo in Movement and Motion was taken by Claire Firstbrook, second place was by Kyle Fraser, and third place was taken by Tashi Eaton.
In the Nature category, Kyle Fraser took top place, followed by Jessica Rouest in second and Ashley Rothwell in third place.
Top place in Elements of Design was taken by Kyle Fraser, with second and third place images by Chelsea Dykstra.
In the final category of People and Animals, Claire Firstbrook took top place, with Hayley Pinchbeck in second and Tashi Eaton in third.
In addition to the professional photographers, the student body of GBSS was given the opportunity to pick their favourite image and the winning image was taken by Chelsea Dykstra.
All of the competition photographs will be on display in the front hall of GBSS during the GBSS Community Open House on Thursday, November 26 from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Following the Open House, the winning images will be on display at Meaford Hall.
