Due to unforeseen circumstances there has been a change of caterer for the Thursday night MIFF meal and party. Thursday night will now be catered by the dynamic duo of Andrew & Sylvia Barber. Andrew Barber and his family name is well known to our local community of Meaford and the Blue Mountains. Following in his father’s footsteps, Andrew quickly found himself thrown into the culinary life of a chef. As a young boy Andrew was already eager to help his dad in the kitchen. As he got older he took on more responsibilities with his father and worked in various local restaurants from Ted’s Range Road Diner to Starks exploring different styles of kitchens and cooking. He enrolled in Stratford Chefs School at the young age of 18, graduating from a difficult course two years later with high marks. Once finished school he decided that the big city would benefit his career finding opportunity working or one of the city’s leading chefs Mark McEwan. Life was good but Andrew wanted more, he decided to move back to the Blue Mountains area landing a job at Sisi on Main in the beautiful town of Thornbury.
Sisi’s was where Andrew met his talented and beautiful wife Sylvia Gardulski. Honing their craft together, they have been entertaining our bellies with delicious foods, international cusine with Andrew’s own twist ever since. Good food paired with friendly service and affordable wines has created evenings many have enjoyed. Andrew’s passion for food comes from his roots of generations of Chefs, and Restauranteurs. His inspiration is drawn from our amazing area, abundant in seasonal produce and quality foods. Cooking at home for his family of four boys provides excellent opportunity to exercise creativity while maintaining a balanced diet. “It all starts at home, with my best critics, my family has to like it!” says Andrew. He and his family are planning to stay in the area and hope to be feeding friends and families bellies for years to come.
Don’t forget Sunday night. Captain’s Corner will be making waves with a delicious seafood dinner. Enjoy a Greek salad, stuffed sole, redskin mashed potatoes, sautéed season vegetables, and homemade pie for dessert!
