Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate two, day time residential break-ins in the Municipality of Meaford, and they are asking residents to keep windows and doors to their homes and their vehicles secured at all times.
“The OPP also encourage residents to report any suspicious persons or vehicles to police by contacting their local police service or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122,” said the Grey County OPP in a press release.
On Wednesday, August 19, at approximately 4:25 p.m., Grey County OPP investigated a break-in to a residence on Meadow Lane. An unknown person(s) entered the residence through an open garage door. Several pairs of gold earrings were taken from a jewelry box located in the master bedroom as well as cash from a ladies purse. Total value of the theft was estimated at $1,100.
The theft occurred while the homeowner was cutting grass in the rear yard.
On the same day, August 19th, unknown person(s) entered a residence on Pollard Drive in Meaford. A quantity of jewelry was taken, including: an 18 kt yellow gold diamond engagement ring, 14 kt white gold wedding band, 14 kt gold opal ring, a 14 kt gold sapphire and diamond ring, and a gold-plated tennis bracelet with rhinestones. The total value of the stolen jewelry was estimated at $10,000.
A heavy-set male, with darker skin colour, was observed leaving the victim’s driveway on Meadow Lane, and driving away in a beige mid-size vehicle around the time of the break-in.
