OPP Release
On Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at approximately 7:13 p.m. Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a deck that had collapsed, injuring six people.
The incident occurred at a second storey apartment above a commercial business on Toronto Street South, Markdale, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
Four adults and two children, ranging from 38 to 2 years in age, were on the deck when it collapsed inward towards the brick wall of the building, turning upside down and coming to a rest against the north wall. A neighbour who had heard the commotion, called 911.
The Grey Highlands Fire Department and Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) were on scene attending to the injured parties. All the victims were taken to Markdale Hospital. A four year old boy was transferred by air ambulance to London Hospital.
The Ontario Provincial Police, Mount Forest Forensic Identification Unit and the Municipality of Grey Highlands Building Inspector are assisting with the investigation which is continuing.
