On October 6, the Meaford Public Library will host Giller Prize-winning author Elizabeth Hay for the library’s signature event of the fall season.
The award-winning author will appear at Meaford Hall at 7 pm on Tuesday, October 6. Hall will discuss her work as a writer with a special focus on her latest novel entitled His Whole Life, published in August 2015.
His Whole Life has enjoyed fantastic reviews. The Globe and Mail raved, “Hay creates enormous spaces with few words, and makes the reader party to the journey, listening, marvelling…” A review by The New York Times noted, “Hay has a delightful, deadpan wit, the kind that sneaks up on you.” And The Winnipeg Free Press called Hay “a master storyteller”.
Elizabeth Hay has strong roots in Grey County. She was born and raised in Owen Sound and also lived in Wiarton as well as Mitchell, Ontario. She attended the University of Guelph and has lived in Newfoundland, the Northwest Territories, Mexico, and New York City. She now makes her home in Ottawa.
In addition to winning the Scotiabank Giller Prize for her novel Late Nights on Air, Hay has been honoured with many of Canada’s most prestigious literary awards: Libris Award, Fiction Book of the Year; Ottawa Book Award; Finalist, Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction (twice); Rogers Writers’ Trust Prize; Finalist, Journey Prize; and many more.
