For someone who has been in the music business as long as I have (and that’s a long time because I am really old) it still excites me to discover tremendous young new talent.
And since I am madly in love with my new hometown Meaford, it is even more exciting to happen upon a truly gifted singer/songwriter in my own backyard.
Well, not literally my backyard, but 25 year old Luke Brody – also a relatively new Meafordite – has got some serious talent that he is now gearing up to share with all of us!
Born in South Carolina and raised Quebec, Luke has called our little lakeside town home for the past five months. Why? Well, his parents bought a place here so that was a darn good start, but what really got Luke was the vibe.
“I absolutely fell in love with the area,” he says enthusiastically. “I was looking for someplace ‘inspirational’ to really work on my music, and Meaford is that place. I find the songs just pouring out of me now and can’t wait to share them.”
His voice is like a fine Shiraz – deep, velvety, resonant and rich. From the moment he opens his mouth – even to speak – you know you’re in for a treat. And his original songs do not disappoint. Lyrical, emotive and intelligent, with echoes of Jack Johnson, Dallas Green and even a touch of Johnny Cash, Luke Brody bares his soul fully and completely with every courageous note. With every raw word. With ever arduous emotion. He is the real deal.

This Friday (June 15) you’ll find him at the Farmer’s Market from 3-7. What a perfect opportunity to support local produce and local music!
On Thursday July 5 Luke Brody will be the inaugural act in The Wharf’s new Thursday night singer/songwriter series, featuring a mix of originals and covers (Neil Young, Hendrix, Bill Withers). And then on Sunday July 15, Luke will join fellow up-and-comer Sam Dockar and me (I must be the old-and-goer) at Beautiful Joe Park (1-4) as we continue the “Jazz For Joe” series with a free (by donation) concert in support of The Beautiful Joe Heritage Society.
This is your chance to witness true talent from the ground floor up, right in the comfort of your own back yard (or park, or market). I hope you’ll join me as we savour together this very fine musical wine.
